Definition of Balanced mutual fund:

1. Mutual fund which attempts to balance a low-risk investment strategy by dividing its cash among common stock (ordinary shares), preferred stock (preference shares), and high-yield bonds. When compared with pure stock (aggressive growth) funds, balanced funds perform better when the stock market is in decline and worse when it is gaining.
