Definition of Channel capacity:

1. The maximum rate at which water can flow through a waterway.

2. Maximum amount of data, energy, or material an appropriate channel can carry under given constraints. See also bandwidth.

3. The maximum rate at which a signal can be transmitted reliably over a communications channel without a loss of information.
