Both can work, but we use possessive.

I always talk and hear about dentist appointments, but I don't think meetings are bad. But it's like seeing a doctor, except for a dentist.

It would be more accurate to call him a dentist. I would probably say I need to see a dentist.

In many former British colonies I still say I have a dental office. Remember when we say I have a doctor's appointment, not a doctor's appointment.
