Definition of Doctrine:

1. A belief or set of beliefs held and taught by a Church, political party, or other group.

2. Widely adhered-to principle or rule based on strong evidence and/or sound reasoning. In comparison, dogma is supported as a mere claim, or is imposed by a fiat usually in defiance of evidence to the contrary, or without the corroborating facts. Opposing parties usually label their own assertions a doctrine, and those of the opponents a dogma.
