I went to Rosetta Stone, they don't have a Tamil language program.

The easiest, most effective and best way to learn Tamil is to study the scriptures and their grammar first. It may take a little longer to learn to speak without knowing the alphabet and grammar, but you will not be able to write sentences or your knowledge of Tamil is limited.

To learn Tamil, do the following:

1. Get a very easy book to learn Tamil.

2. If you have friends in India / friends are traveling to India, get elementary school textbooks. This will help you build your dictionary.

3. There are many online courses for learning Tamil. However, it will be useful only if you know the basics of Tamil grammar.

4. It would be better if you have someone who knows what Tamil you are studying.

It may take a little longer to learn Tamil by talking to someone who knows Tamil a lot, but you will only learn simple words and phrases without knowing the basic grammar.
